Each player needs to bring their glove, sneakers/turf shoes, batting helmet, and bat.  COVID-19 participation rules for the CYA Fieldhouse will be followed.  Waiver forms must be completed by all participants.  No spectators are permitted.  Cost for the 8 sessions is $160.  Cost for a second player from the same family is $120. Drop-in registration cost (if space is available) is $25 per session.

Softball Pitching Clinic

There will be 8 sessions from 6pm to 7pm on 1/16, 1/23, 1/30, 2/6, 2/13, 2/20, 2/27 and 3/6.  The sessions will be limited to 20 pitchers.  Additional sessions will be opened as needed (e.g., 7-8pm).

South Lakes HS pitching coach Dave Gould will provide the instruction for the softball pitching clinic.  Coach Gould also coached at Catholic University and Chantilly HS. Coach Gould has provided pitching caps/lessons for over 20 years.  Coach Gould has over 50 years of experience playing fastpitch softball including experience playing/pitching in National and Regional Championship tournaments.  Coach Gould was elected to both the Greater Washington Fastpitch Hall of Fame and the Washington DC Fastpitch Sunday League Hall of Fame.

The clinic is open to all players from age 8 to 18.  The clinic will focus on the windmill style pitching mechanics and how to throw different pitches.  Topics will include the arm motion, finger grips per pitch, footwork on the mound, drills to develop accuracy, and drills to increase pitch speed.  Advanced discussions include how to determine hitter weaknesses and pitching strategies.  Players will be grouped by skill level (e.g., beginner, intermediate, advanced) and instructions will be tailored for each level.

Each pitcher needs to bring a catcher (e.g., parent, teammate), their glove, sneakers/turf shoes, and one or more balls.  All participants including catchers must wear a mask.  COVID-19 participation rules for the CYA Fieldhouse will be followed including social distancing.  Waiver forms must be completed by all participants including catchers.  No spectators are permitted.

Cost for the 8 sessions is $160 per pitcher.  Cost for a second pitcher from the same family is $120.  Drop-in registrations (if space is available) is $25 per session.

Babe Ruth Registration (13-15 years old))

To all Baseball Players ages 13-15,

Babe Ruth registration may be found at ( )
.  We particularly wish to extend a welcome to those players graduating from little league.  We offer "Babe Ruth Prep" for "league age" 13 year olds, and this is a great time to learn the game on the "big field".  We welcome players with any level of experience, from those just starting the game to highly experienced players.  We maximize playing time for all our players and work to provide an enjoyable and competitive experience for everyone.

In addition to Babe Ruth Prep for 13 year olds, we have teams at the 14-15 year old level, and Babe Ruth Seniors at the 16-18 year old level

For the past several years, the CYA Babe Ruth Program has been affiliated and chartered, along with teams from Herndon/Reston, under Northern Fairfax County Babe Ruth (NRCBR).  The CYA Babe Ruth Program has joined forces with the sponsoring organizations in Herndon/Reston to administer the program as the combined NFCBR.

The registration web page for age 13-15 year old players is:  and it is open now for registration.  When you register there will be a place for returning players to indicate which system/team you are currently assigned.  Coaches also need to register as a volunteer.  More information is available at

Please contact CYA’s Babe Ruth Baseball Coordinator at or the program contacts listed at with any questions.

Please note that Senior Babe Ruth will still be administered through CYA, and players age 16-18 should register at

NFC Babe Ruth Baseball

Ages 13-15

CYA and Herndon Reston Babe Ruth is now Northern Fairfax County Babe Ruth (NFCBR).  Same great sponsors - CYA, Herndon Optimist, Reston Youth Baseball with one website to register, check schedules, find fields, and more of the info you want about Babe Ruth.  The new website can be found at .  Take a look and if you have suggestions or questions, contact us.  Your comments are welcome.

NFCBR is comprised of teams from Chantilly, Herndon, and Reston. Within NFCBR, we use the System Concept to promote player development. The System Concept is designed so that a player can stay with the same system in which they are initially drafted throughout their BR career during the Spring seasons.  Each system is run by a System Manager, and fields teams in three divisions:

  • Prep - 13 year olds
  • Alliance - 14 & 15 year olds
  • Babe Ruth - more competitive 14 & 15 year olds

For more information on divisions, click on the link at the left-hand side of this page called Division Information. Players are assigned to play in the division which is appropriate for their age and skill level in accordance with Babe Ruth rules. Players sometimes play across divisions to satisfy the needs of the System, and to promote their own development.

We understand many of our 15 year-old players will be participating in a spring sport at their high schools.  However please realize that does not preclude playing BR baseball.  Our season continues after the completion of the spring high school seasons. For example, the high school JV baseball season ends the first week of May. The more competitive "Babe Ruth" division does not start until the following week.  All high school players are invited to play in the competitive "Babe Ruth" division after the completion of their high school season.

We look forward to seeing everyone back out again this spring. If you have any questions or concerns about the coming season, please feel free to contact the CYA Babe Ruth Baseball Coordinator at .
