FCYFL Letter re: Fall 2020 Football season

Dear FCYFL Families,

We are writing to families who have had children play football in the FCYFL in recent years in order to update you on where we stand as a League.  First of all, we hope you and your families are well in these unprecedented times.  We also want you to know that we are committed to doing everything possible to have a successful tackle football season this fall.

We are in close contact with local and school officials to determine what measures we must adopt to protect players, coaches, officials and families.  As you know, no final determinations have been made about when school will start or what accommodations will be required to bring kids back to school at this time.  Field availability and use is affected by the school and government closings.  We want to assure you we will continue to collaborate with local and school officials as we move forward.

We believe that the children of Northern Virginia need football now more than ever.   Success in life is about teamwork – in the family, at work and in the community.  No sport or activity teaches important character lessons like dedication, resiliency, facing challenges and teamwork as well as football does.  Kids need activity and being active, and that is even more important now after weeks of quarantine.

We are very proud that FCYFL is one of the top youth tackle football leagues in the country based on a commitment to putting kids first, ensuring all kids play, requiring coaches’ education and certification and emphasizing safety.  We are also unique in having various levels of play – from instructional levels to the most competitive elite levels – basically travel football without the travel!

Obviously, we do not fully know what the current pandemic has in store and what government and school officials will allow in the fall.  We just want you to know that we are preparing and will be prepared to have a season if that is remotely possible.  Some of our member clubs have already opened their registration.  Others will do so in the coming weeks.  We hope that you will register to play when they do, as well as letting friends and neighbors know what they are missing and encourage them to register, too.

Thank you for your past participation in this great sport.  We look forward to seeing you this season.
