SPARK (HOUSE+) FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When are tryouts?
Tryouts for the fall will be scheduled before school begins. Tryouts need to occur before the House teams can be assembled. Due to families traveling, we will offer multiple days for tryouts to ensure everyone that wants to is able to attend.
Who are the coaches?
Fall 2026 14U will be coached by Desi Gennaro. Fall 2026 12U will be coached by Leah Smith.
If my child is not selected for the Fall team, will she have an opportunity in the Spring?
These teams are selected for one season only. Tryouts for the team will take place each season.
What is the additional cost for this team?
Uniforms and team supply costs are already covered in your House registration fee. The only additional costs would be for registration for tournaments or doubleheaders scheduled outside of our interleague. These fees vary and will be covered evenly by every player on the team. We aim to keep additional fees under $100 per girl.
Who will be evaluating and selecting the team?
Tryouts will be run by the coach and a few additional volunteers (board members) who have extensive experience with the softball program.
Will the evaluation be based on their age group level now or the age group level they'll be in for the fall?
Teams should be competitive within their respective age divisions, so for the fall season, players will be evaluated based on their ability to compete at the fall age-group level. However, this does not automatically exclude players who are newly moving up to that age group. Players who demonstrate strong softball IQ, a positive attitude, coachability, and the potential to contribute meaningful skills to the team will be considered for selection.
What happens if there are only enough girls for one additional House team?
This is unlikely to be an issue. Historically, we have had enough players to field at least two House teams at each age level, and often three or four. Additionally, not all players move up to a new age division in the fall, which helps maintain a sufficient player pool within each age group.
